President’s E-Award for Excellence in Exporting
The history of the “E” Award originated in the US Navy. In 1906 US Navy units which surpassed all others in gunnery, engineering, and communications were presented with “E” Pennants. At the outset of World War II, the “E” Pennants were given to US factories for exemplary production and patriotism.
President John F. Kennedy created an Executive order in 1961 in order to bestow the nation’s highest honor upon American exporters. The “E” Award honors both companies and organizations for their competitive achievements in world markets and for their contributions to the success of the US economy.
Only a small number of companies nationwide are chosen to receive the “E” Award each year. Transcon is the 21st company in South Carolina to receive the “E” Award since its inception.
2007 Exporter of the Year
Transcon Trading Co. Inc. of Irmo, S.C., has been awarded a 2007 ThinkGlobal/Commercial News USA Exporter of the Year award from ThinkGlobal Inc., publisher of Commercial News USA, the official export promotion magazine of the U.S. Commerce Department.
Commercial News USA is a catalog-style magazine distributed to an estimated 400,000 readers in 176 countries worldwide. Awards are given to one U.S. company in each of 15 industry categories. Privately-held Transcon Trading was named Exporter of the Year in the Medical/Scientific Products & Equipment category.
Winners were chosen based on the total number of documented export deals completed in 2005, total percentage increase in sales in 2005 compared to 2004, exports as percentage of total sales, the company’s commitment to exporting, the company’s commitment to customer service, and the company’s innovation and originality in marketing products or services.
Transcon Trading provides export management for both human and animal health and nutritional products. Exports represent 100% of the company’s total sales.
Founded in 1979, Transcon Trading began exporting that same year. “We are extremely pleased to be selected for this prestigious award. Exporting significantly contributes to the economic security of our country. Equally, it has been the mainstay of our company’s growth and strength for many years. We encourage others to incorporate exporting as a part of their sales and marketing strategies. For these purposes, there are many marketing tools available in the private and public sectors including that of Commercial News USA,” said Transcon Trading Chairman Jerry Smith.
Gregory Sandler, publisher of Commercial News USA, said that Transcon Trading Co.’s success is indicative of how American companies can benefit from exporting. “With 95% of the world’s market outside the U.S., there is significant growth opportunity for American manufactures and service providers.”
